The music room of the Palacio de Liria opens to the public for an extraordinary concert. "La música de la Casa de Alba: reflexiones dieciochescas" reconstructs and relocates lost heritage from the musical archive of the Casa de Alba, by the Fundación Casa de Alba and the Fundación Guerrero.

The Fundación Casa de Alba and the Fundación Guerrero are organising an extraordinary concert dedicated to recalling the musical heritage lost after the fire at the Palacio de Liria in 1936, and whose collections are known thanks to the publication of "La música en la Casa de Alba", research by the musicologist José Subirá carried out at the request of the 12th Duke of Alba, Jacobo Fitz-James Stuart y Falcó. La música de la Casa de Alba: REFLECTIONS OF THE 18TH CENTURY will be held in the music room of the Palacio de Liria.

The fire at the Palacio de Liria in 1936 caused the loss of its music archive, which contained five hundred years of history. Shortly before, the collection had been inventoried in La música en la Casa de Alba (Music in the House of Alba), research by the musicologist José Subirá, carried out at the request of the 12th Duke of Alba, Jacobo Fitz-James Stuart y Falcó. The concert recovers some sonatas by José Herrando, violinist of the Royal Chapel, written for the House of Alba and fortunately preserved thanks to the fact that Subirá himself had copied them by hand. They are performed together with other fragments of his works edited by the pianist Joaquín Nin in modern versions. It begins, therefore, in a baroque context with period instruments, to explore the vision of 18th century music in the early years of the 20th century, with modern instruments. All this is contextualised among fragments of contemporary zarzuelas, adapted for this programme, and which recall eighteenth-century dances. The concert offers the possibility of visiting the music room of the Palacio de Liria, which is usually closed to guided tours.

Welcome to a unique exhibition in a unique location.
The Palacio de Liria opens its doors for us to discover one of the most beautiful
dialogues in history between art, fashion and heritage. A journey through two centuries of beauty where extraordinary pieces of Haute Couture created by
pieces of Haute Couture created by Charles Frederick Worth, Cristóbal Balenciaga, Louise Boulanger, Flora Villareal or Emanuel Ungaro,
dialogue with the genius of painters such as Federico de Madrazo, Franz Xaver Winterhalter, Joaquín Sorolla and Ignacio Zuloaga.

Curated by Lorenzo Caprile and Eloy Martínez de la Pera, this exhibition aims to highlight th
e close link between the House of Alba and the world of fashion, highlighting its work as a patron, in a chronological framework that spans from the birth of modern fashion in the 19th century to the present day. An exhibition narrated by key figures in contemporary history such as the Empress Eugénie de Montijo, the first great universal fashion designer, thanks to the complicity she had with the Haute Couture designer Charles Frederick Worth, and the spectacular dresses from the Château de Compiègne. The elegance and distinction of Jacobo Fitz-James Stuart y Falcó, XVII Duke of Alba, to delve into protocol, male etiquette and the beauty hidden behind royal uniformity. And finally, the XVIII Duchess Cayetana, as an indisputable reference of "the Spanish" in fashion through great couturiers such as Manuel Pertegaz, Christian Dior or Flora Villareal. "Fashion in the House of Alba" brings together more than 100 pieces from the palaces of Liria, Las Dueñas and Monterrey, and from institutions such as the Château de Compiègne, the Museo del Traje and Patrimonio Nacional, as well as from a large number of private collectors who, committed to this very special and unprecedented project, have donated valuable works of art and pieces of clothing, which can be seen for the first time in this unrepeatable and therefore unforgettable exhibition, have donated valuable works of art and pieces of clothing, which can be seen for the first time in this unique and therefore unforgettable exhibition, to make us feel that, if painting is indebted to fashion, fashion owes its permanence over time to painting.
