The exhibition brings together about twenty works, including recent creations by the artist together with pieces from previous stages, tracing a broad vision of his practice in recent decades. Taken together, these works activate a field of resonances between the artist's biography, the memory of the palace and the visitor's experience.

With a career spanning more than four decades, José María Sicilia (Madrid, 1954), one of the most important figures in contemporary Spanish art, has intervened in the most emblematic rooms of the Liria Palace, such as the library, the Ballroom, the Hall of Love of the Gods, the Stuart Hall and the Grand Duke Hall, among other spaces, bringing together recent works created ex profeso, as well as an installation site-specific. All of them, conceived from attentive listening to the latent stories that the place preserves, these pieces are intertwined with the architecture and memory of the building and promote dialogue between the Casa de Alba collection and the present.

The works that make up”Nights and days“offer an overview of the current artistic practice of José María Sicilia in which techniques, fingerprints, prints, painting, photography and sculptural forms of extreme delicacy overlap and create unique pieces that silently dialogue with the existing collection in the palace. Thus, the whole displays a visual grammar based on the recognition of art history, family ties and a shared cultural imaginary.

These pieces open up liminal spaces that invite reflection and, following narratives as old as A Thousand and One Nights, configure an unfinished story of stories within stories, of non-linear temporalities and of intimate mythologies that are only completed with the presence of the spectator.
